2026 poster, or rather, the “Donkey Constellation“
“Constellations are stories that humankind decided to remember.”
Italo Calvino
How did a blue donkey end up in the sky, surrounded by stars? It most likely got shot from a circus cannon, and probably with its consent, since the animal looks peaceful, if not impenetrable. The 2026 poster only shows the donkey’s face that, kind yet determined, makes its way amid the constellations, leaving behind a trail of bright pink dots. This year’s donkey is “born from the stars”, as suggested by the supernova on the verge of exploding on its forehead. It is unclear whether his eyes are black or blue, but what is certain is that the universe shares the same color, intermittently brightened by astral flashes. Our 2026 donkey is fully aware of itself and stares at the viewers, challenging them: “Do not ask yourself whether donkeys can fly; I exist, therefore I am.”
In the author’s own words:
“My blue donkey was inspired by Suniti Namjoshi, lesbian and feminist writer, and her short stories “The Blue Donkey Fables.” In this work, she subverts traditional fable tropes and portrays the issues that come up when dealing with stereotypes related to ethnic backgrounds, sexuality, and gender in a colonial, heteronormative society. I wanted to pay tribute to those constellations made up of individuals who are still fighting, together, to claim their place in the world.“
