CONCORTO KIDS 2022
AUGUST 23-24, PIACENZA
Concorto Film Festival 21st Edition
Cloister of Galleria d’Arte Moderna Ricci Oddi, via San Siro 13, Piacenza
Free admission for children from 3 to 10 years old
2022 marks the beginning of a project that Concorto Film Festival, now in its 21st edition (August 20-27, 2022), has long aimed to realize, something that is being carried out experimentally, so as to broaden the activities offered in the years to come.
We are talking about Concorto Kids, namely several events the festival has organized for children. This idea was inspired by two principles: the desire to offer quality cinema, moving away from stereotyped animations and mass video products, and the intention to connect the screenings with a network of cultural projects, such as workshops for younger and older audiences.
Concorto Kids is targeted at children between 3 and 10 years old, a wide but not too broad range that allows us to offer consistent films and activities.
In this 21st edition, our Piacenza-based short film festival will therefore be engaged in an image education effort targeting all children living nearby, aiming to involve and create networks of excellence in our national reality, to promote the project, and to create joint activities of mutual value.
One important goal of the Concorto Kids project is to promote quality cinema for children, moving away from mainstream approaches and standardized content, and to give parents, educators, and teachers practical tools to learn how to use cinema as educational content.
Concorto Kids is curated by Enrica Carini, Virginia Carolfi, Rael Montecucco, Daniele Signaroldi.

5:30-6 .pm. – snack! Offered by Fonte Plose and L’angolo del pane di Eleonora e Isabella.
6-7 p.m. – screening of short films based on the books read in the 4:30 p.m. workshop.
Wednesday, August 24
4:30 p.m. – workshop “Good Screens: how to use cinema in education” open to parents, teachers, and educators. Speakers will include AVISCO, Association for research, experimentation, and updating on audiovisuals in school and socio-educational settings, and members of Concorto Film Festival. Enrica Carini will moderate.
4:30 p.m. – during the workshop for adults, we will offer an activity for children based on the concert of the Kamishibai theater, in collaboration with the “Mario Casella” Library of Fiorenzuola d’Arda. Parents, if they want to, can attend the workshop for adults while the children are busy with the Kamishibai theater activity. The illustrated panels, specially made by the library, will tell one of the short films scheduled at 6 p.m. The Kamishibai is an original and effective tool for animating readings: it is a visual theater of Japanese origin used by storytellers. It is a wooden case in which printed boards are inserted both front and back: on one side the drawing and on the other the text. The viewer sees the picture while the storyteller reads the story: a strong involvement of both the storyteller and the audience lies at the heart of this activity. Thus, the idea is to introduce young movie lovers to an ancestor of cinema, the Kamishibai, and to show the connection between the two media.
5:30-6 p.m. – snack! Offered by Fonte Plose and L’angolo del pane di Eleonora e Isabella.
6-7 p.m. – screening of short children’s films from all around the world!
