August 25, 2023 – CONCORTO FILM FESTIVAL Parco Raggio, Pontenure (PC)

In 2023, Concorto Film Festival will partner up for the first time with Soundtracks – Musica da Film, a project of Modena Centro Musica. Every year, five musicians are picked to perform film soundtracks live. This initiative is supervised by Corrado Nuccini (Giardini di Mirò), this year with the help of Adele Altro (Any Other) and Karim Qqru (The Zen Circus) as senior tutors.

Concorto will, notably, give Karim Qqru the chance of showing, for the very first time, the outcome of his artist residency, which focused on adding the soundtrack to The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed), a 1926 German animated film directed by Lotte Reiniger and, while uncredited, Carl Koch. It is the oldest animated feature film that we could get a hold of.

The soundtracking performance will take place on Friday, August 25, en plein air, surrounded by the wonderful Parco Raggio (Pontenure, PC), as part of Concorto Film Festival.

The musicians involved are:
● Karim Qqru (The Zen Circus) – orchestration, artistic director
● Francesco Iacono – bass guitar / live electronics
● Lorenzo Marra – synth
● Margherita Parenti – drums
● Federico Pipia – guitar / live electronics
● Elena Roveda – western concert flute

“Soundtracks – musica da film” is an artist residency project promoted by Modena Centro Musica and curated by Corrado Nuccini (Giardini di Mirò). It is part of the larger “Sonda Music Sharing” project, sponsored by the law “Legge Musica 2/2018” of the Emilia Romagna region, 2021-2023.

Karim Qqru is an Italian musician, producer, and composer, as well as drummer for the Tuscan band Zen Circus and frontman of his solo project La notte dei lunghi coltelli.

He has recorded and produced several albums for many Italian bands (such as La Notte, Progetto Panico, Cara Calma, and Metropol). He has also worked as a percussionist with Brian Ritchie, of the American band Violent Femmes, in the Shakuachi Jazz Club Italy jazz band. Other (live and in-studio) collaborations include those with Violent Femmes, Kim Deal of Pixies, Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads, Giorgio Canali, Nada, Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, Federico Fiumani, Dente, Il pan del diavolo, Ministri, Fiona Burnett, Eugene Chadbourne, Dick Parry, and many others. He has also worked with Xabier Iriondo (Afterhours), Corrado Nuccini (Giardini di Mirò), and Emidio Clementi (Massimo Volume) on the soundtrack of Benjamin Christensen’s Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages. Furthermore, he is the founder of Dirt Tapes, a record label and shop that focuses on releasing music on tapes only.

Tickets on sale on Eventbrite and at the entrance on the day of the event.
